Housebuilder Lovell has helped a couple returning to the UK after years abroad successfully downsize at the Tennyson Fields development in Louth, demonstrating how thoughtful design can make the transition to a smaller home easier than expected.
Lindsay and Phil chose the Lincolnshire development after being attracted by its distinctive character, including lagoons, landscaping and dedicated space for wildlife that set it apart from other new build sites.
The couple had seriously considered buying an existing property, but were concerned about the unknown costs of renovations and energy efficiency issues. They ruled out several other new build developments where room proportions would have made accommodating their furniture challenging.
At Tennyson Fields, generous room sizes and well-planned layouts have allowed them to fit king-size beds, furniture and storage without feeling cramped. The kitchen-diner proved particularly practical, with deep cupboards and counter space that made the transition from a larger property more manageable. Lindsay said:
"The open nature of the site really stood out. The lagoons and tree planting made it feel different from other developments we looked at. There was a generous sense of space and privacy."
A year after moving in, the couple have unpacked and settled in comfortably. The development's location on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds provides easy access to countryside walks, while Louth's amenities, including doctors, dentists and shops, are all within walking distance. A gym is on the doorstep, and Lincoln is just an hour away. Phil said:
"Tennyson Fields has exceeded our expectations. The house is easy to maintain and comfortable to live in, making downsizing much simpler than we anticipated. Even after a year in the property, we remain very happy with our choice and have been pleasantly surprised by its excellent soundproofing and energy efficiency."
Jasmine Hindley, Regional Sales Director at Lovell, said:
"We're absolutely delighted that Phil and Lindsay have found their perfect home at Tennyson Fields. Their experience really demonstrates how thoughtful design and generous room proportions can make downsizing a positive transition rather than a compromise. The feedback we receive from residents about the development's green spaces and sense of community is wonderful to hear, and we're proud to have created a place where people genuinely want to put down roots."
